August 2011: Design tips
This month’s article continues the occasional series where I discuss ideas for garden design tips. The four photographs show examples of ideas that help solve some of the most common and demanding of garden design problems.
The first picture shows how a strategically placed pergola will obscure the view of your patio from your neighbour’s upstairs windows.
The second picture shows an example of how to steal a view from your neighbour. Although this example is on a grand scale the same principle can be applied in a more modest garden.
The third picture shows how a small evergreen tree placed about three metres from a window will stop passersby looking in but will not cut light out inside the house.
The fourth picture shows how a structure covered in an evergreen climber is both visually striking and gives cover from overlooking windows.
